F5000 Tasman Cup Revival Series

Regulations and instructions pertaining to the conduct of the 2003/04 F5000 Tasman Cup Revival Series issued under the auspices of the Historic Racing Club Inc/Formula 5000 Register.

General Provisions.
The aim of these regulations is to provide a framework for the F5000 register members to demonstrate their cars in a competitive, but sportsmanlike fashion and to promote Historic F5000 racing in Australasia. By also providing a spectacle, which will attract suitable sponsors, it is hoped to minimizing competitors logistic expenses. To that end the meeting organizers and the HRC/F5000 Register will work together to foster these ideals

These events are by invitation to owners of Formula A, F5000 and Tasman cars built to Formula 5000 regulations covering the period 01.01.68 - 31.12.78.
As well as the regulatory items outlined below, all competing F5000's must comply with Appendix 6, Schedule K in the current New Zealand Motorsport Manual.

Ensure that the events are in sympathy with the opening paragraph of Appendix K which states "Historic Competition is not simply another formula in which to acquire trophies, it is a discipline apart in which one of the essential ingredients is devotion to the cars and their history".

Engines
Cars may have period engines fitted with Aluminium cylinder heads but must retain a cylinder block of the original material and design. The position of the camshaft may not be altered. Valves are to be of standard length and period intake manifolds to fit 23 degree cylinder heads are to be used. Bore and stroke may be altered to give a maximum displacement of 5000cc.

Aerodynamic Aids.
Cars, which ran wings on stilts of the 1968-69 era, may run wings, which conform, to the 1971 season's regulations. Wings, their construction and profile must be as run in period.
 
Minimum Weights.
Cars built prior to December 1971 have a minimum weight of the vehicle of 1250 lbs  (567 kgs) with oil and water, but without fuel and driver. Cars built after December 1971 have a minimum weight of the vehicle of 1350 lbs (612 kgs) with oil and water, but without fuel and driver. Cars may be weighed at least once during the series at the discretion of the appointed Technical Director(s).

Ground Clearance. 
Cars will have a minimum stationary ground clearance of 40mm, with the driver seated.

 

Tyres.
Cars may run on treaded or slick Avon tyres sourced from Dold Industries Ltd. Compounds and patterns are free. Entrants should note that they are to be equipped to run in both wet and fine conditions to ensure promotional and sponsorship commitments are complied with.

Livery and Advertising.
Cars, which originally ran in a specific livery, may run in this livery and are encouraged to do so. Competitors are reminded that as custodians of these cars, historical accuracy needs to maintained. Additional advertising is to be approved by the Technical Director and must be period correct. Sponsors decals, where specified, are to be displayed clearly.

Documentation.
The minimum standard of documentation is a valid MNZ Certificate of Description (COD). Entrants are encouraged to pursue the acquisition of a FIA Historic Vehicle Identity Form. (HVIF) A valid FIA HVIF or MNZ COD must be provided by the competitor for each car entered at scrutineering for each event. Overseas entrants must have a similar level of description for their vehicle. COD's or HVIF are to be available for perusal at all meetings by the Technical Director(s).

Calendar of Events.
The following calendar of events is published on a provisional basis and may be subject to amendment from time to time but should provide entrants with a basis upon which to plan their program.

September 20/21 2003. HRC meeting Pukekohe, Auckland.
November 8/9 2003. VHRSC meeting Sandown, Melbourne, Australia.
January 31/ February 1 2004. Skope Classic meeting, Ruapuna, Christchurch,.
February 14/15 2004. Southland Car Club Classic meeting, Teretonga, Invercargill.
March 27/28 2004. HRC/Auckland Car Club meeting, Pukekohe. Auckland.

Characteristics of the events.
Races will be of no less than 25 km and no longer than 75 km distance. Race length and format may vary with event organisers. Race organizers are to publish a time schedule upon which competitors will base their starting position.

Licenses
Drivers and competitors must hold an appropriate and valid National License. Drivers must have appropriate visas for international events.

Entries
Competitors must register their intention with full payment by 1 September 2003. The entry fee for the series will be NZ$1,000 payable to The Historic Racing Club/ F5000 Register. Competitors who start at least one race at a meeting will be reimbursed a minimum of $400 for the meeting. Competitors competing in all five events in the Series will therefore receive a minimum of $2000.

Scrutineering
Scrutineering for safety will be carried out as per normal. Eligibility Scrutineering will be carried out by the appointed Technical Director. The Technical Director will be appointed by the HRC/F5000 Register.

Practice & Starting Procedure.
All competitors shall have the opportunity of at least 20 minutes in which to qualify.
Events shall have standing or rolling starts at the discretion of the meeting organizers in consultation with the F5000 Technical Director, after two warm up laps.

Race Classification.
Points will be awarded for each race or heat as follows:
1st 20 points
2nd 15 points
3rd 12 points
4th 10 points
5th 8 points
6th 6 points
7th 5 points
8th 4 points
9th 3 points
10th 2 points
Starting 1 point.

Promotion - Competitors
Entrants should provide historic information and photographs about their cars to the F5000 Register for the production of uniform sized information boards in the pit areas. Individual pit/garage areas are, within normal safety considerations, to be made accessible to spectators.
